On the way to Thekkady: Day 4

26 August 2017. We left Munnar for a place called Thekkady. I’ll keep this travel diary short because, as our driver Gopinath had suggested, there isn’t much to see in Thekkady.

“Thekkady only boating saar”, he had told my father in his broken English with a thick Malayali accent. He meant that Thekkady is good only for a boat ride in the Periyar.

Yup. The famed Periyar river that I had studied about in my Geography classes. And as I recall now, I’m sure I had studied about a man called Periyar (who I cannot recollect was, right now) in my Sociology classes too. I was excited to see the river that my friends and teachers at school had so hyped.

But I had to wait for that. Because today I would only do some sight seeing on the way to Thekkady in a jeep safari.

Unfortunately, I do not have pictures from the jeep safari—we had gone off-road into the jungle and it was way too difficult to get nice pictures—especially when we were seated in a very shaky jeep.

We would reach Thekkady only tomorrow. For now, I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

Our final sightseeing location from the jeep safari was a beautiful hill from where we could see Munnar on one side and Thekkady on the other. By the way, the green bushes you see atop the hill is actually lemongrass 🙂

That’s it for today. I’ll continue writing my travel diary. Thanks for being here!
